SARAH ROSS THOMPSON

Sarah was born in London in 1965 after studying English and Classics at London University 1983-1986 she moved to Dorset in 1992 and attended Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, specialising in Printmaking. After relocating to Argyll in 2013, Sarah set up studio, offering print workshops in her new studio space.

Unlike many forms of printmaking, collagraphy requires the application of materials to a surface rather than the removal. With an etching, acid is used to erode away the surface of the plate. Both woodblocks and linocuts also require the cutting away of material. In a collagraph, textural material is added to the surface of the ‘support’ or base block, although the base itself can be inscribed and cut into.
