Tricia Thom’s work reflects a love of Japanese aesthetic; simplicity, balance and grace. It seeks also to express something of connections between people. Teapots and moon jars speak to her as symbols of community and ritual.

The process of making is as important to Tricia as the end product. The pieces are wheel-thrown porcelain. Some surfaces are punctuated rhythmically inside and outside and applied with simple, clear and celadon glazes. Some surfaces have intuitive, calligraphic brush marks which serve to compliment the uniformity of the thrown form. The act of throwing porcelain on the wheel, and the physical action of applying decoration on to the surface of pots, are intimate, sensory experiences that sustains her and make the process so meditative and therapeutic.
