Julia gained a BA Hons in ceramics in Bristol in 1984 before spending six years in London as a theatrical prop maker. In 1991 she moved to Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Julia’s pots are exuberant, joyful and a wee bit outrageous, challenging the concept of functional ceramics. Her love of the theatre, the circus and colour influences her work, with every hand-made piece becoming a sculptural work of art in its own right.
The crown has become a recognisable trade-mark feature of Julia’s work along with the flamboyant slip decoration, strong, bold forms, and the slightly over the top Baroque modelling.
