Born in Aberdeenshire, raised and educated in the West of Scotland and went on to study design at Glasgow School of Art. After a five-year stint as a designer with the BBC, he worked as a design lecturer in further and higher education for the next twenty-five years.
On moving back to Argyll, he now devotes his time to his two main interests writing and painting. His short stories and poems have been published in many literary magazines and anthologies and he has been shortlisted in major writing competitions. He exhibits colourful landscape paintings inspired by the beautiful scenery of Argyll and the Inner Hebrides and has recently produced aseries of paintings developed from sketches made on an extended stay on the Island of Hoy in Orkney.
His painting technique is a mix of action painting to create dynamic lines in the composition and a build-up of textures using cut up plastic cards and palette knife.
